Sunamganj bus owners, workers call off strike

Sunamganj bus owners and workers have called off their indefinite strike after assurance of meeting their demands.

General secretary of the district bus owners association Jewel Ahmed confirmed the matter to Jago News on Friday night.

He said police seized three buses of 'Shyamoli,' 'Mamun,' and 'Shakil' Paribahan from the road in Wazkhali area on Thursday.

Protesting the seizure, the inter-district bus owners called a transport strike for an indefinite period from Thursday evening, he added.

Jewel said they held a meeting with district administration and police at the deputy commissioner's office yesterday where they demanded to enlarge the bus terminal by filling up a pond there and the administration agreed to this.

It also allowed them to park buses on the road until the terminal is extended and that is why they withdrew the strike, he also said.

In this regard, DC Md Zahangir Hossain said a meeting was held with the transport leaders yesterday afternoon on the strike where they made some demands and they will meet these for discipline on road.

About this, Superintendent of Sunamganj Police (SP) Ehsan Shah yesterday told Jago News police seized the buses for parking on road illegally as parking vehicles on road creates suffering for people and causes traffic jams.
