Norwegian university keens to relation-building with RU

The Prospect of building relations between Rajshahi University (RU) and Norwegian Agdar University is bright in terms of research and studies.

President of Norway Kristiansand-Rajshahi Friendship Committee Deck Viger came up with the observation while calling on RU Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar at the latter's office on Saturday.

He also said there are scopes of reaching a consensus related to joint research and exchanging students and researchers between the two universities besides extending cooperation in the field of education and research.

RU VC Golam Sabbir expressed his hope about building the relationship and it will help extend to other universities in Norway.

Deck Viger said the existing relationship between Bangladesh and Norway is long-lasting. People of Norway's Kristiansand city are well-known about Rajshahi city.

There is also a Kristiansand-Rajshahi City Friendship committee. Bilateral relations between the countries will be strengthened in the years to come.

"We will remain with the development of Rajshahi", he added.

According to the meeting, the friendship between the two cities was established in 1979 to mark the date back to the War of Liberation when a Kristiansand photojournalist covered many incidents in Rajshahi and other regions. It is learnt, Kristiansand city authority took Rajshahi as a sister city of Kristiansand. To mark the friendship, a 100-foot by 10-foot mural featuring various aspects of Bangladesh's history and culture was also installed at Kristiansand city in Norway.

Pro-VCs Prof Sultan-ul-Islam and Prof Humayun Kabir and Rajshahi unit president of Christiansand-Rajshahi Friendship Committee Dr Patrick Bipul Biswash and Member Prof Ananda Kumar Saha were present at the meeting.
