Attack on ex-justice Manik: 4 JCD men arrested

Four leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) have been arrested in a case filed over the attack on former justice of the Supreme Court AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik in capital’s Paltan area.

AKM Hafiz Akter, Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter in a press conference around 11:30am on Thursday.  

He said, a case was filed with Paltan Police Station over the attack on former justice Manik. Four people were arrested so far over the incident. 

The case will be transferred to DB police soon for further investigation, he added.

The arrestees are JCD’s central Joint General Secretary Maksudur Rahman Sumit, former Joint General Secretary of Jagannath University JCD unit Md Shakhawat Hossain Khan, Md Rabin Khan and Kolabagan unit JCD member Md Sagar. 

Manik said, he came under the attack on Wednesday afternoon when he was going to give an interview to a private TV channel in Karwanbazar from Motijheel. 

The leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat attacked on him, his car driver and gunman when his car reached Paltan area. They also vandalized his car, the former justice added. 

In this connection, Salahuddin Miah, Officer-in-charge of Paltan Police, said 50 unnamed leaders and activists of BNP were accused in the case.
