At least thirteen people were killed in six districts due to the impacts of Cyclone Sitrang as the storm started crossing Bangladesh territory on Monday evening.
Of them, four were killed in Bhola, three in Cumilla, two each in Sirajganj and Gopalganj and one each in Narail and Barguna.
In Bhola, four people were killed and five others injured due to the impacts of the cyclone in Sadar, Daulakhan, Lalmohan and Charfesson upazilas from Monday night to early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Mofijul Islam, 60, Khatija Begum, 60, Monir Hosen, 30 and Rabeya Begum, 25.
Of them, Rabeya drowned in the water and the rest died after the trees collapsed on them.
Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Touhidul Islam, Charfesson Upazila Nirbahi Upazila Officer Md Al Noman and Lalmohan Police Station’s Officer-in-charge Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the deaths to Jago News.
In Cumilla, three people were killed after a tree fell on them at Heshakhal area in Nangalkot upazila around 9pm on Monday.
They are Md Nizam Uddin, his wife Sathi Akter and their daughter Liza Akter.
Heshakhal Union Parishad Chairman Iqbal Bahar Majumder confirmed the deaths to Jago News.
In Sirajganj, two people died after a boat carrying them capsized due to the storm at Purbamohanpur area at Soyda union in sadar upazila around 9:30 on Monday.
They are Ayesha Khatun, wife of Khokon Sekh, of the village and her son Arafat Hosen, 2.
Soyda Union Parishad Chairman Nabidul Islam on Tuesday morning confirmed the deaths to Jago News.
In Gopalganj, two women were killed as two trees collapsed on their houses at Panchkahnia and Charpara villages in Tungipara upazila on Monday night.
The deceased are Sarmin Begum, 25, wife of Rezaul Kha and Romecha Begum, 58, wife of Hannan Talukder.
Muhammad Abul Monsur, Officer-in-charge of Tungipara Police Station, confirmed the deaths to Jago News.
In Barguna, a 115-year-old woman named Amena Khatun was killed after a tree collapsed on her house at Sonakhali village in sadar upazila around 8pm on Monday.
Confirming the matter to Jago News, Barguna Deputy Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman, said the district administration visited the spot and will give financial assistance to the deceased family.
In Narail, a housemaid named Morjina Begum was critically injured after a tree branch fell on her at Lohagara upazila parishad area on Monday morning. Later, local people rushed her to the upazila health complex where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Md Nasiruddin, Officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said the body will be handed over to the deceased’s relatives.
