A case has been filed against more than 300 unnamed students of Rajshahi University over the attack on Rajshahi Medical College Hospital following the death of a fellow student at the facility.
Taking permission from RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani, the hospital's acting administrative officer lodged the lawsuit with Rajpara Police Station in Rajshahi city on Thursday afternoon.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police's additional deputy police commissioner (media) Rafiqul Alam confirmed the matter.
It was learned that the RMCH authorities alleged in the complaint that more than 300 students of Rajshahi University led by some indiscipline ones attacked the hospital over the death of a RU student at Ward No. 8.
They vandalized medical equipment, door-window of different rooms, including wards and administrative blocks, as well as other things.
The agitated students also scolded, humiliated and beat up physicians, nurses and other employees of the facility and obstructed government work.
Earlier on Wednesday night, KGM Shahriar, a third-year student of the Marketing department of Rajshahi University, fell from the veranda of the third floor of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall and received serious injuries.
His fellow students rushed him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
After taking him to the emergency department, a doctor there asked them to take him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and also asked them to give him a doctor's reference. After a while, he died there, the students alleged.
The students also alleged that the physicians beat up them after they protested the incident. Four students were injured and they were admitted to a clinic. Being aggrieved, they attacked the office of the hospital's director.
Chase and counter-chase also happened between the students and intern doctors. The intern physicians alleged that RU students attacked them and later, they started work abstention protesting the incident.
RU student adviser M Tareq Noor told Jago News, "They beat up and injured our students. If they file a case against our students today, we will lodge two tomorrow."
