Five Covid deaths, 491 cases recorded in 24 hrs

The Bangladesh government reported five COVID-19 deaths and 491 cases in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of fatalities increased to 29,380, and infections stood at 20,29,015. 

The Directorate General of Health Services said this in a press release on Friday.

The new cases were found after testing 4,912 samples in the past day.

During the period, 701 patients recovered from the illness, taking the total recoveries to 19,68,654.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 625,715,443 people and killed 6,558,274 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 605,325,940 across the world.
