The power supply has been restored in some areas of Dhaka and some other areas of the country gradually following a power outage due to a fault in transmission lines of the national grid.
Authorities of the power sector have restored power supply at Bangladesh secretariat, Biduyt Bhaban, Manik Nagar, Bangabhaban, Mirpur, Mohammadpur and Baridhara areas along with some other important establishments in the capital city, an official of the power division said.
Meanwhile, power supply was restored in Tangail, Kishoreganj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur and Manikganj districts. The power supply was restored at partly areas of Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Chattogram, Sylhet and Siddhirganj, said a power division official.
The power and mineral resources ministry expressed grief for the unwanted inconvenience.
Engineers-technicians of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) are working relentlessly on it.
BPDB Director (Public Relations) Shameem Hasan said that the power supply in Dhaka is being restored gradually as the capital city needs a huge load. "So we are trying to supply power to all dwellers of Dhaka in phases," he said.
Earlier, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid told BSS that the trouble in the eastern region has already been solved, but the power supply will be normalised within the shortest time.
"Due to the national grid failure, people of many areas of Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet and Cumilla area are not getting electricity since 2:05 pm today," Hasan said.
He said that engineers of both BPDB and PGCB were trying their best to restore electricity transmission.
Earlier, in 2014 power outage took place in the country due to national grid failure.
According to officials of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) the national grid tripped from about 2 pm in the eastern part of the country.
