Dr Kamal removed from Gonoforum's chief adviser post

Dr Kamal has been removed from the chief adviser post of Gonoforum by a faction of the party led by Mostafa Mohsin Montu.

Besides, Md Mizanur Rahman has also been dismissed from the general secretary post of the party.

The Montu-led Gonoforum faction made the announcement in a press conference at Jatiya Press Club in capital Dhaka on Tuesday.

At the press conference, the party's executive president advocate Jaglul Haider Afrik said the 17 September committee declared by Dr Kamal and Md Mizanur Rahman is completely unconstitutional.

He said a 157-member central committee of Gonoforum was formed in the party's sixth national council on December 3 last year with permission and support of Dr Kamal and the active participation of 1,000 councilors.

Former Gonoforum General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu and executive president senior advocate Subrata Chowdhury were elected as the party's president and general secretary respectively in the body, he said.

Making Dr Kamal Hossain president and Md Mizanur Rahman general secretary, a 101-member committee was announced in the name of Gonoforum on September 17 with those who are divisive and inactive and resigned from the party, Afrik alleged.

In this situation, Dr Kamal was relieved from the chief adviser post, and Md Mizanur Rahman was expelled from the general secretary post and membership of the President Council in the meeting of Gonoforum's central committee on Monday, he added.

The Gonoforum faction's president Mostafa Mohsin Montu, executive presidents Professor Dr Abu Sayeed, Mohiuddin Abdul Kader, Prof Hafiz Chowdhury, and Siddiqur Rahman, among others, were present at the press conference.
