The historic Education Day is being observed on Saturday by various student and teacher organisations marking the 60th anniversary of the sacrifice students made on September 17, 1962 while protesting against the SM Sharif-led Education Commission.
On September 17, 1962, three students - Mostafa, Babul and Wajiullah - were killed in police firing when students were protesting against the SM Sharif-led Education Commission following publication of its report.
Since then students and teachers have been observing September 17 as the Education Day demanding a scientific, single-stream, pro-people and secular education system in the country.
