HC withdraws ex-ACC Director Enamul Basir’s bail

The High Court (HC) has withdrawn the bail order of suspended Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Khandaker Enamul Basir a day after he got bail in a bribery case.

A single-member HC bench of Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order on Wednesday.  

Earlier on Tuesday, the same bench granted bail to Basir. 

On June 9, 2019, during a television interview, Mizanur Rahman, a suspended deputy inspector general of police, claimed that Basir had taken Tk 4 million in bribes from him, promising that he would be given a clean chit. 

On January 19, 2020, ACC Director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafilya, filed charge sheets against Mizanur and Basir for allegedly leaking information and taking bribes.

On February 23 this year, Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 sentenced three years of imprisonment to Mizanur in a graft case while he was acquitted in the money laundering case. 

Basir was sentenced to three-years of imprisonment under section 161 of the Penal Code and five-year imprisonment with a fine amounting Taka 80 lakh under money laundering prevention act. Both the sentences would run concurrently.
