Three fishermen were killed and another went missing as a trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal in Hatia upazila of Noakhali district on Friday morning.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Local fishermen said a fishing trawler carrying 16 people sank in Damarchar area 10 kilometers south of Nijhum Dwip around 10 am.
Later, a nearby trawler, navy police, and coast guards rescued 12 fishermen and retrieved three bodies. A fisherman, however, remains missing, they said.
Coast Guard official KM Shafiul Kinjan said a team of coast guards was conducting a rescue operation over the trawler capsize. Details can be known after the completion of the drive.
Hatia Police Station officer in-charge Md Amir Hossain said a rescue operation was going on. The identities of the dead fishermen and the missing one could not be known immediately, he added.
