A Supreme Court lawyer on Monday filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the fuel oil price hike.
Advocate Md Eunus Ali Akand submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC seeking stay on and cancellation of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources’ gazette hiking prices of fuel oil.
Energy Secretary, its Deputy Secretary and Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman were made respondents to the writ.
The HC bench of Justice Md Majibur Rahman Miah and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akand may hold hearing on the petition.
On night of August 5, the government raised all fuel oil prices, which came into effect on August 6.
Now the price of diesel and kerosene per litre at the consumer level is Tk114, octane Tk135, and petrol Tk130.
