Four sent to jail in Tipu-Preeti murder case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent four accused, who were arrested and placed on a two-day remand each in a case lodged over the sensational murder of Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afrin Preeti in the capital's Shahjahanpur area on March 24, to jail.

The four accused are-- Mahbubur Rahman Titu, Juber Alam Khan Robin, Arifur Rahman Sohel, and Khairul Islam.

On July 31, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor granted a two-day remand for each as police produced them before the court.

Acting on information gathered from Sumon Shikder Musa, the alleged mastermind behind the killing, police arrested the four from the capital's Motijheel area on July 30.

Tipu, former general secretary of Motijheel Awami League, was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon residence on the night of March 24. He was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital's Shahjahanpur area as his vehicle got stuck in traffic.

Rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Preeti was also got shot by stray bullets and died on the spot. Tipu's driver Munna got shot in his hand in the incident.

Later, Tipu's wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station.
