1 killed, 50 injured in police-BNP clash in Bhola

One person was killed and at least fifty people including six police members were injured in a clash between the police and the leaders and activists of BNP in Bhola on Sunday.  

The clash took place in front of the Bhola district unit BNP office around 11:30am. 

The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Rahim, a leader of Bhola Sadar Upazila Dakkhin Deghaldee Union unit of Swechchasebak Dal.

Humayun Kabir Shopon, Joint Secretary General of Bhola district BNP, said they went to hold a demonstration as part of the party’s central programme. At that time, police obstructed them and fired rubber bullets and tear shells. More than fifty leaders and activists were injured. Apart from, a man named Abdur Rahim was killed in police shooting. The injured were admitted to Bhola Sadar Hospital and Barishal Medical College Hospital.  

Nafiza Kamal, a doctor of Bhola Sadar Hospital, said one of the injured in police-BNP clash died. 

Saiful Islam, Bhola Police Superintendent, said some police members were injured after the BNP leaders and activists attacked on them. The situation is now under control.
