BNP leader and former mayor of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) Ahsan Habib Kamal has passed away. He was 67.
He felt sick at his house in the capital’s Banani around 11pm on Saturday. Later, his family members rushed him to the United Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and many well-wishers to mourn his death.
Ahsan’s son Kamrul Ahsan Rupon said his father was suffering from kidney-related disease. The body of his father will be taken to Barishal on Sunday morning.
However, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed his deep shock at the death of Ahsan.
Ahsan was elected the BCC mayor in 2013. He was fisheries affairs secretary of the BNP central committee and the president of Barishal district unit (south) BNP.
