Mirsharai tragedy: 11 laid to rest

Eleven people who were killed after a train hit a microbus at a level crossing in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram on Friday afternoon, were buried in their respective areas in Hathazari upazila on Saturday.

A namaz-e-janaza of five of the deceased was held on Khandakia Chamdia Girls High School ground in Hathazari upazila at 10:30am. The five deceased are Jiaul Haque Sajeeb, Iqbal Hossain Maruf, Riduanul Haque Chowdhury, Golam Mostofa Niru and Samirul. 

Later, the namaz-e-janaza of four other victims was also held on Najumia School ground. Earlier, two other victims - Maruf and Jisan - were buried at their respective graveyards after a namaz-e-janaza held on Friday night. 

However, a case was filed over the accident on Friday night.

Md Jahid, Assistant Sub Inspector of the Chattogram Railway Police Station, filed the case against the gatekeeper of the level crossing for his alleged negligence in duty.  

Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Mirsharai Police Station, said eighteen passengers were in the microbus. Eleven of them died on the spot and seven others were injured after the Chattogram-bound train hit their microbus. They were returning after visiting Khoiyachhora waterfall. Five of the injured are in critical condition. 

Ansar Ali, Transportation Officer of Bangladesh Railway (east), said the microbus got on the rail track breaking a bamboo barrier at the level crossing before it was hit by the train.
