Graft case: Ex-OC Pradeep gets 20 years in jail, wife 21 years

A Chittagong court has sentenced suspended OC of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das to 20 years in prison and his wife Chumki Karan to 21 years in jail in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Munshi Abdul Majid of the Chittagong Divisional Special Judge’s Court passed the order on Wednesday.

The verdict was delivered after the court concluded hearing the testimonials of 24 witnesses.

The State Prosecutor of the court Mahmudul Haque confirmed the matter to Jago News.

On August 23, 2020, ACC filed the case against sacked OC Pradeep and his wife for amassing wealth worth over Taka four crore. 

On July 28, 2021, Md Riaz Uddin, Assistant Director of the ACC and plaintiff of the case, submitted a charge sheet against them to the court. 

On September 1, the court accepted the charge sheet.

On December 15, the court framed the charge against them in the case. 

On July 31, 2020, Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at Baharchhara Police Check-post in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf.  

Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed a case at Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after the incident on August 5.

Pradeep is in jail in the case.
