The instruction has been given to make Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kaiser Khasru an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) for verbally abusing a journalist over phone.
Cabinet Secretary Anwarul Islam said this at a press briefing in Secretariat on Monday.
He said he directed to make him (Teknaf UNO) OSD. The next measures will be taken against him as per the court’s direction.
On Sunday, Cox’s Bazar district administration issued a show-cause notice against him.
The High Court on Sunday also wanted to know what administrative action has been taken against Teknaf UNO.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat asked Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik to talk to Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner in this regard and inform the court.
A national online news portal on July 21 published a report on alleged anomaly in constructing houses for the homeless in Cox's Bazar. After the report, the UNO called the reporter named Saidul Farhad over phone from his official number on the night and used awfully abusive language for the report.
