The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four people including the prime suspect, who allegedly harassed a female student of Chittagong University (CU).
Nurul Afsar, Assistant Director (Media) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-7, confirmed the matter to Jago News at 9am on Saturday. But he didn’t disclose the names of arrestees.
On the night of July 17, a group of five men forcibly picked a female student and her friend up from the university’s Pritilata hall area to the Botanical Garden.
They first beat the two up and then tied up the girl and sexually assaulted her. They also forced her to put off her dress and recorded a video and threatened her to release it on the internet. When her male friend tried to save her, the abusers snatched his phone and left the area.
The victim, who is a first-year student of the Arts Faculty, filed a case against five unidentified people under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Hathazari Police Station on Wednesday night.
The university administration formed a five-member investigation committee over the matter on Tuesday.
