The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered judicial probe into the humiliation of Mirzapur United Degree College teacher Swapan Kumar Biswas in Narail.
A High Court division bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice SM Maniruzzaman passed the order, asking Narail Chief Judicial Magistrate to probe the matter within next six weeks. The court also issued a rule in this regard, reports BSS.
Senior Jurist Advocate ZI Khan Panna and Barrister Anik R Haque moved a writ petition, which was filed on July 4, before the court.
A Hindu student of the college allegedly made a post on Facebook supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on June 18. A group of locals including some students spread rumours that acting principal Swapan Kumar Biswas had sided with the student and created ruckus in and around the college. They torched three motorcycles inside the college premises.
Later, police came at the scene to rescue the teacher, but the some people put a garland of shoes around the neck of Swapan Kumar Biswas and forced him to plead for mercy in presence of the law enforcers.
