Rain water entered Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) on Saturday, forcing the facility's authorities to cut off the power supply there.
Due to the incessant rain and rush of water from upstream, water started entering the wards on the ground floor of the hospital from its premises after 12 noon.
Later, the authorities cut off the electricity supply as water entered the hospital's generator, disrupting treatment at the surgery department and the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
SOMCH Director Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said, "There is knee-deep water on the ground floor, including the emergency department, and water is also under the central generator. As a result, we are in trouble with performing urgent operations, and treating the ICU and CCU patients."
"We have requested the Directorate General of Health Services, Sylhet City Corporation, divisional commissioners, and deputy commissioner to provide some small generators urgently in a special arrangement," he added.
Sylhet city's many highlands, including Madina Market, Bagbari, Subidbazar, Kalapara, Amorkhana, Chauhatta, were submerged by rainwater from this morning to 1:30 pm.
According to the sources in Sylhet met office, 157 millimeters of rainfall was recorded between 6 am and 12 noon in the district, and the situation may continue for two/three more days.
