Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday said the elections to Cumilla City Corporation were held in a fair and peaceful manner, with voter turnout around 60 percent.
"In overall consideration, elections to Cumilla city were held in a fair and peaceful manner. No allegations came from the voters," he said, adding that voter turnout was around 60 percent in the city.
The CEC said this in a briefing at Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital of Dhaka this afternoon.
Earlier, Cumilla City Corporation elections were held in 105 polling stations through the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) today.
The main contenders in the polls are the immediate-past mayor and independent candidate, Monirul Haque Sakku, and Awami League-backed Arfanul Haque Rifat.
