The High Court has granted bail to suspended sub-inspector (SI) Hasan Uddin in the case filed over the death of Rayhan Ahmed in Sylhet police custody.
The bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Atoar Rahman on Sunday passed the order after a hearing.
Lawyer Md Ruhul Kuddus (Kajol) stood for the accused in the country while Deputy Attorney General Sujit Chatarjee was for the prosecution.
Sujit told the journalists that the HC granted six months' bail to him and the prosecution will file an appeal against the order in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
Rayhan Ahmed, 35, was allegedly tortured at Bandarbazar Police Outpost in Sylhet city on October 11, 2020, and he died an hour after he was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital by police personnel.
Later, his wife lodged a case in this connection.
