Sitakunda explosion: Death toll rises to 44

The death toll from BM Container Depot explosion in Chattogram’s Sitakunda has risen to 44 as one more person died early Wednesday.  

The deceased was identified as Md Masud Rana, 37, son of Khalilur Rahman, of Gopinathpur area at Sarishabari in Jamalpur.  

He was the RST Operator of the depot.

Masud breathed his last around 4am while undergoing treatment at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Assistant Sub Inspector of the district police Alauddin Talukder, who was on-duty in CMCH, confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

The body was kept at the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy, he said. 

However, 27 of 44 deceased were identified and of them 26 were handed over to their families. 

It is to be noted that, an explosion took place at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda on Saturday night. At least 44 people, including members of the fire service, were killed. Hundreds of people have been burnt and are being treated at different hospitals.
