The High Court has directed the authorities concerned to investigate the harassment of burqa-wearing female students in 15 educational institutions of different districts.
A HC bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Miah and Justice Khijir Hayat passed the order on Thursday.
The HC bench also directed to submit a report within 60 days over wearing burqa in educational institutions.
The HC bench said wearing hijab or burqa is a constitutional right in the non-communal and secular Bangladesh.
The court fixed August 11 for next hearing over the matter.
The fifteen institutions where the female students allegedly faced harassment for wearing hijabs and burqas are - Barbarpur High School of Naogaon’s Mohadebpur, Brajendra R C High School of Sunamganj’s Derai, Bhadeshwar Nasir Uddin High School of Sylhet’ Golapganj, Management department of Kushtia’s Islamic University, Sher-e-Bangla High School of Noakhali’s Senbagh, Joarganj Buddha High School of Chattagram’s Mirsharai, Satbaria High School of Chattogram’s Chandanaish, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology of Gopalganj, Kalkini Model Pilot High School of Madaripur, Kazi Fazlul Haque Women’s University of Narayanganj’s Sonargaon, Bisham Danga Girls’ High School of Sirajganj, Zia Mahila College of Feni, Agailjhara Paisa Secondary School and College of Barishal, Kishori Mohan High School of Sylhet and Maijpara Mahmudunnabi High School of Chattogram’s Patenga.
