Thirty-five people, including Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Kazi Rawnakul Islam Sraban and General Secretary Saif Mahmud Jewel, have secured six weeks' anticipatory bail in two separate cases over clashes at Dhaka University.
The High Court bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Selim on Wednesday granted the bail and asked them to surrender before the trial court within the six-week period, Barrister Kaiser Kamal confirmed to Jago News.
On May 24, a clash ensued when the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) obstructed Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal from entering the DU campus with a procession, and at one stage, it turned into a clash, leaving several injured.
Later, JCD alleged that at least 30 leaders and activists of it were hurt in the clash.
On May 27, DU Shahidullah Hall unit BCL president Zahidul Islam Zahid lodged a case with Shahbagh Police Station against 17 named and 50-60 more unnamed people in this connection.
