3 Naogaon war criminals get death penalty

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sentenced three war criminals of Naogaon to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

A three-member bench of ICT led by its Chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the order on Tuesday.

The other members of the tribunal are Justice Abu Ahmed Jomadar and Justice A K M Hafijul Alam. 

The death-row convicts are former Naogaon district Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Rezaul Karim Montu, Md. Nurul Islam and Md. Shahid Mandal. Among them, Nazrul is a fugitive. The other two are in jail.

The tribunal Registrar Mesbah Uddin Ahmed and state prosecutor Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

The investigation team of the prosecution started the investigation against the three accused on October 18, 2016. They submitted a charge sheet to the tribunal on November 30, 2017. Shahid Mondol was arrested on February 12, 2017.
