Ahsanullah murder case: acquittal for 11 upheld

Supreme Court Appellate Division has upheld a High Court order that acquitted 11 accused in AL lawmaker Ahsanullah Master Murder case.A bench headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order after hearing on a petition filed by the state on Sunday.On June 15, HC upheld the death penalty of six killers of popular labor leader and also former Gazipur lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.Ahsanullah, a popular politician of Tongi and AL MP from Gazipur, was gunned down on May 7, 2004, during his address to a local conference at the Noagaon MA Majid Mia High School ground, near his home. A schoolboy was also killed in the gun attack.A Speedy Trial Tribunal on April 16, 2005 sentenced 22 people, including BNP leader Nurul Islam Sarkar, to death and six others to life imprisonment in the murder case.
