Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa resigns amid clashes

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned from the Premiership a short while ago.

His resignation comes at a time when an Island-wide curfew has been imposed after pro government supporters clashed with anti-government supporters in Colombo and several other parts of the country.

On Friday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had informed his brother to step down from the post as a solution to solve the ongoing political crisis.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa has informed some of the SLPP MPs that he will make his decision today.
