Couple injured in fridge compressor blast die

A couple injured in a fridge compressor blast died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) on Monday.   

The deceased were identified as Abdul Karim, 30 and Khadiza, 25. 

Their two-year-old daughter Fatema, who was also injured in the blast, is in critical condition.

On night of April 20, they were burnt in a blast occurred at a house at Konapra area in the capital’s Jatrabari. Their family claimed that the explosion occurred from fridge compressor but police and Titas gas authority said the blast was caused by gas accumulated inside the kitchen.

Dr Ayub Hossain, Resident Surgeon of the SHNIBPS, said Khadiza died while undergoing treatment at 4am and her husband died around 6am. 

Abdul suffered 54 per cent burns, his wife 95 per cent burn injuries while their child suffered 35 per cent burns, he added.
