11 journalists hurt in New Market clashes

Eleven journalists were injured while covering clashes between the Dhaka College students and the New Market traders in New Market area in the capital Dhaka.

The injured are Ajker Patrika reporter Al Amin Razu, Daily Star photographer Prabir Das, Dhaka Post senior reporter Jashim Uddin Mahi, multimedia reporter Iklasur Rahman, Deepto TV reporter Asif Sumit, SA TV reporter Tuhin, camera person Kabir Hossain, RTV camera person Sumon De, My TV reporter Danny, Jago News reporter Touhiduzzaman Tonmoy, Dhaka Post reporter Jashim Uddin and Manab Jamin photojournalist Jiban.

The injured journalists said both parties in the clashes behaved with them arrogantly, and traders and shop workers beat up several media men with hockey sticks.

Earlier on Monday midnight, Dhaka College students and New Market traders clashed, chased-counter-chased in New Market area.

Later, the situation was brought to control but a clash erupted again this morning, leaving around 40 people injured.
