Nipun declared Film Artistes Association gen secy

Actor Zayed Khan has been stripped of his position as the general secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes Association and instead, actress Nipun declared elected unopposed in the post.

The Appeal Board decided this after the allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct against Zayed Khan has been proved, the board chairman Sohanur Rahman Sohan said on Saturday evening.

Earlier, the board complying with the direction of the Social Welfare Ministry sat in a meeting this afternoon on the allegations of violating the code of conduct against the actor, and Chunnu who vied for executive member post in the polls. 

The board member Mohammad Hossain, two election commissioners Zahid Hossain and BH Nishan, accuser Nipun, newly elected President Ilias Kanchan, among others, were present at the meeting but the two accused did not attend.

Earlier, the voting in the 17th Bangladesh Film Artistes Association election was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises on January 28.

Actors Ilias Kanchan and Zayed Khan were announced elected as the president and general secretary respectively of the body for the 2022-2024 term.

After the results, Nipun, who was narrowly defeated by Zayed Khan, brought allegations of buying votes in exchange for money against him and demanded re-election.
