The Bangladesh government on Tuesday recorded the second-highest daily COVID-19 cases of 16,033 and 18 new deaths.
With this, the total infections stood at 16,85,136 and fatalities rose to 28,223, a health directorate press release said today.
Earlier on July 28 last year, 16,230 cases were reported.
As many as 49,697 samples were collected and 49,492 tested in the past day.
During the period, 1,095 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,58,954.
Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020.
The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.
To date, the epidemic infected 355,957,775 people and killed 5,624,635 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 282,424,662 across the world.
