Coronavirus: 12 new deaths, 9500 cases

Twelve more people died from coronavirus and 9,500 newly contracted the virus in the past 24 hours.

With this, the total fatalities and infections rose to 28,176 and 16,42,294 respectively, a health directorate press release on Wednesday.

As many as 37,573 samples were collected, and 37,830 tested in the past day.

During the period, 473 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,54,268.

Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020. 

The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.

To date, the epidemic infected 335,581,197 people and killed 5,575,173 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 271,161,748 across the world.
