Ivy elected Narayanganj city mayor for 3rd time

Awami League nominated mayor candidate Selina Hayat Ivy has secured a landslide victory in the Narayanganj City Corporation election.

With this, she became the NCC mayor for the third term. 

Ivy with the 'boat' symbol bagged 1,61,273 votes while her nearest rival and independent candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker with the 'elephant' symbol got 92,171.

Returning officer Mahfuza Akter announced the results on Sunday night after the completion of vote counting.

Earlier, voting in the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election began at 8 am and ended at 4 pm in a peaceful manner. 

In the polls, Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were used in all centers.

The election officials said they received no allegation of major irregularity in the election.

Apart from Ivy and Taimur, BM Sirazul Mamun competed in the race with the symbol 'wall clock', Masum Billah with 'hand-fan', Rashed Ferdous with 'hand watch', Md Jashim Uddin with 'banian', and Kamrul Islam with 'horse' for the mayor post.

As many as 145 candidates ran for general councillor posts. Moreover, 34 aspirants vied for reserved councillor seats for women.
