The Bangladesh government recorded 5,222 new COVID-19 cases and eight deaths in the last 24 hours.
With this, the total infections stood at 16,17,711 and fatalities rose to 28,144, a health directorate press release said on Sunday.
As many as 29,624 samples were collected and 29,305 tested in the past day.
During the period, 293 more patients recovered from the illness, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,52,893.
Bangladesh, however, first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8, 2020.
The virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019 and then it spread to other countries.
To date, the epidemic infected 327,016,828 people and killed 5,554,906 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, the total number of people who recovered from the virus reached 266,572,975 across the world.
