River conservation commission chairman Ali Kabir dies

National River Conservation Commission (NRCC) chairman and Bangladesh Athletics Federation president ASM Ali Kabir has died. He was 70.

He breathed his last on Monday night while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital, a Shipping Ministry handout said on Tuesday.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury expressed his deep sorrow at the death and sought pardon for the departed soul.

In January last year, the government appointed Ali Kabir as the chairman of the National River Conservation Commission (NRCC) for three years.

Born in 1952 in Barishal, he obtained honours and masters degrees in English Literature from Dhaka University. He went to retirement as a secretary in 2011.
