Dhaka Nagar Paribahan has been launched first time in the country to restore order in public transport.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader inaugurated the programme virtually from the Secretariat on Sunday.
“All kinds of cooperation will be provided to build an orderly and modern public transport system,” the minister said.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh presided the programme. Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam addressed among others in the programme.
Under the bus route rationalisation programme of the two Dhaka city corporations, 50 buses will start operating on the first trial route from Ghatarchar to Kanchpur from today.
Of the buses, 30 are double decker buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and within two months the number will be doubled.
