The Dhaka University administration has canceled its rule that prohibited married and pregnant female students to reside in its dormitories.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the provost standing committee of DU on Wednesday, the university Proctor Prof Dr AKM Golam Rabbani told Jago News.
He said, "The administration has scrapped its rule banning married and pregnant female students from living in Dhaka University's residential halls."
"But the administration thinks the students (pregnant) should stay with family before and after the childbirth," he added.
The decision came after Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Shishir Manir, a former DU student, served legal notice over the rule earlier today.
He sent the notice to the vice-chancellor of the university, the registrar, the proctor, and the provosts of Shamsunnahar Hall, Bangladesh-Kuwait Friendship Hall, and Sufia Kamal Hall.
