A court in Khulna on Wednesday sentenced eight people to death in a case filed over the murder of an army member in Jhenaidah district.
Alongside, they were also fined Tk 50,000 each.
Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Md Nazrul Islam Hawlader delivered the verdict, the lawyer for the state, Md Ahaduzzaman, confirmed.
The condemned convicts are Hakimul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Faruk Hossain, Matiar Rahman alias Fain (absconding), Kashem, Dalim (absconding), and Mokter (absconding).
The case statement said a group of robbers hacked army member Saiful Islam Saif with sharp weapons in Beltalardari area in Sadar upazila on the night of August 18, 2018, leaving him injured.
Later, he was taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
On the following day, the victim's father lodged a case in this connection.
