Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today distributed Green Factory Award to 30 institutions from six sectors marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Premier joined the function at Osmani Memorial Auditorium virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban, reports BSS.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian handed over the prizes among the recipients.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has introduced the "Green Factory Award, 2020" aimed at building Bangabandhu's ''Sonar Bangla'' and encouraging the local industrial institutions for competitive participation in the global arena.
The 30 institutions from six sectors have been selected considering some criteria such as essential compliance, environmental compliance, institutional compliance and innovative activities.
The institutions are 15 factories from the garment sector while three from the food processing sector and four from the tea industry sector, two from the leather industry sector, three from the plastic sector and three from the pharmaceutical industry sector.
The 15 garment factories are Remi Holdings Limited, Tarasima Apparels Limited, Plummy Fashions Limited, Mithela Textile Industries Limited, Vintage Denim Studio Limited, AR Jeans Producer Limited, Karooni Knit Composite Limited, Designer Fashion Limited, Kenpark Bangladesh Apparel Private Limited (Kenpark Unit 2), Green Textile Limited (Unit-3), Four H Dyeing and Printing Limited, Wisdom Attires Limited, Mahmuda Attires Limited, Snowtex Outerwear Limited and Auko-Tex Limited.
The institutions from the food processing sector are Habiganj Agro Limited, Akij Food and Beverage Limited and Ifad Multi Products Limited.
Four institutions from the tea industry sector are Gazipur Cha Bagan (Gazipur tea garden), Laskarpur Cha Bagan (Laskarpur tea garden), Jagchara Tea Factory and Neptune Cha Bagan (Neptune tea garden).
In addition, two factories from the leather industry sector are Apex Footwear Limited and Edison Footwear Limited.
Moreover, Banga Building Materials Limited, Allplast Bangladesh Limited and Durable Plastic Limited belong to the plastic sector.
On the other hand, three institutions from the pharmaceutical industry are Square Pharmaceuticals Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited and Incepta Pharmaceuticals Limited.
Each organization or factory received a crest, medal, certificate and a cheque of Taka one lakh.
Bangladesh is the global leader having 150 green garment buildings, of which 44 are platinum rated while 93 are gold rated and nine are silver, and four are "Leadership in Environmental and Energy in Design (LEED)" by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Of the top 10 green garment factories, nine are in Bangladesh.
