Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last session, stocks on Wednesday rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

After witnessing volatility, DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 143.75 points or 2.14 per cent to settle at 6,847. Two other indices also ended higher with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, rose 73.57 points to finish at 2,589.85 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 32.22 points to close at 1,437.77.

Gainers took a strong lead over the losers, as out of 373 issues traded, 293 advanced, 45 declined and 35 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

However, daily trade turnover plunged to one-month low to Tk 11,026.13 million on the country's premier bourse which was Tk 11,468.79 million at the previous session of the week.

Beximco dominated the turnover chart, closely followed by One Bank Limited, FIRSTSBANK, Delta Life and ACMEPL.

Index Agro was the day's top gainer, rising 9.99 per cent, while Tunghai was the worst loser, shedding 11.76 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rebounded with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -gaining 383.87 points to settle at 19,998.25 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX rising 233.34 points to close at 12,023.83.

Of the issues traded, 46 declined, 198 advanced and 25 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city's bourse traded 1.77 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 54.30 crore.
