The Chattogram Medical College authorities have expelled its 31 students over the clashes between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League on the campus.
All the expelled students are also the leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League.
Among them, eight were expelled for two years, two for one and a half years, the rest for one year each, and punished one does not fall under this decision as his MBBS course has already finished.
CMC Principal Professor Dr Shahena Akter on Tuesday told this to Jago News after a meeting of the Academic Council.
She said the five-member probe body formed following the clashes that happened on October 29 and 30 submitted its report on Monday.
After reviewing the report today, the Academic Council decided to expel 31 students for different periods and reopen the campus on November 27, she added.
Asked what the reasons were behind the clashes, she replied the investigation committee blamed only establishing supremacy on the campus but declined to comment further.
Two factional groups of BCL clashed in phases on October 29 and 30 over establishing supremacy on the campus, leaving several injured.
However, out of the groups, one is known as followers of former Chattogram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and another of Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.
