Ex-BCL leader arrested for 'beating' journalist

Police have arrested a former leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League in the capital in a case filed for allegedly beating a senior journalist of private news channel Independent Television. 

Arrested Nazim Ahmed is the former president of Dhanmondi Thana Chhatra League in Dhaka. 

Assaulted journalist Md Rishad Huda, also the son of Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Nurul Huda, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Saturday night, officer in-charge Moudud Hawlader told Jago News.

He made Nazim prime accused and Tanveer, Yusuf, Iqbal as well as 10-12 unknown people accused in the case, the OC said. 

Rishad told Jago News that he sounded horn after Nazim's car had hit his motorcycle in Shahbagh area yesterday afternoon that angered the BCL leader. 

Later, he and his associates assaulted him and snatched away his handset, Rishad said.

Journalist Rishad Huda is the permanent member of the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF), and the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
