The government has raised the fares of diesel-run buses by 27 percent amid a nationwide transport strike in protest against fuel price hike.
The fares for long-haul, and intra-city buses have been increased to Tk 1.80 per kilometre from Tk 1.42, and Tk 2.15 per km from Tk 1.70 respectively.
Besides, the lowest fares for bigger, and minibuses have been fixed at Tk 10 and Tk 8 respectively.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority set this new fare following a meeting with the leaders of transport owners association held on Sunday to readjust the fares.
The transport owners and workers began an indefinite strike across the country on Friday demanding the government reverse the decision of fuel price hike or raise bus fare.
Earlier on Wednesday, the government raised the prices of diesel and kerosene by Tk 15 amid a rise in the international market.
