Abdul Motaleb, Additional Secretary General of Truck Workers-Owners Federation, has said the transport strike will continue until their demands are met.
He said this after a meeting with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday.
Motaleb said Home Minister will told his decision about our demands after talking with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. If our demands are met, we will withdraw the strike.
He also said assuring us the minister said that honorable prime minister is in abroad. He will told us after talking with her. Later, the minister will sit with us again to take decision in today’s evening or Sunday.
“A meeting was held with the minister at his residence at noon. The minister listened our demands and said logical demands will be accepted after discussion,” he added.
On Wednesday, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) raised the prices of diesel and kerosene at the retail level by Tk15 per litre in order to keep them in line with the global market.
Later on Thursday, truck and covered van owners called for a nationwide indifinite strike from Friday protestiong the hike in fuel prices.
The new price of diesel and kerosene in the country is Tk 80 litre. The previous price of a litre of diesel and kerosene in Bangladesh was Tk 65.
