Lowest Covid deaths in one and a half years

Bangladesh reported four deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, hitting the lowest fatalities in one and a half years.

With this, the country's coronavirus deaths stood at 27,805, the health directorate said in a press release on Friday.

Earlier on May 6, the government recorded three deaths from the virus in a day.

In the past 24 hours, 232 people newly contracted the virus, taking the tally to 15,67,139.

The daily count came from a test of 17,100 samples in the past day.

Of the total patients, 15,30,647 recovered, with 564 made recovery in the last 24 hours.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year and then spread to newer countries and territories.

To date, the epidemic infected 243,397,606 people and killed 4,947,807 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles the number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, the total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 220,558,314 across the world.
