The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has sent a proposal to the Prime Minister over the cancellation of this year's Primary Education Completion (PEC) examinations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"A summary has been sent to the Prime Minister as a proposal to take decision in this regard. The examinations (PEC) would be cancelled if she approves," State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md Zakir Hossain told Jago News on Thursday.
The sources concerned said the ministry has already decided in principle to scrap PEC and Ebtedayee exams. An announcement about this likely to be made within next week upon approval from the premier.
The ministry is also mulling to provide certificate to the students through annual or temporary tests as it does not want to give anyone auto-pass thinking its negative impact in the society, the state minister said.
However, the Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has recently announced that the government cancelled this year's Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations.
