A court in Sunamganj on Wednesday sentenced a young man to life in prison and fined him Tk 1 lakh for raping a child.
Lifer Babul Mia, 20, is a resident of Kaiyargaon in Sadar upazila of the district.
The district Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Zakir Hossain pronounced the verdict.
Public prosecutor Nanu Roy said lifer Babul violated the child on August 1, 2002.
On October 3 of the same year, the parents of the victim lodged a case in this connection.
