A Dhaka court has sent Shawkat Mahmud, president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and also an adviser to the BNP chairperson, to jail in an arson case filed with Ramna police station.Metropolitan Magistrate Md Waez Kuruni Khan Chowdhury passed the order after Shawkat was produced before the court in completion of three-day remand on Saturday afternoon.Earlier on August 18, detectives arrested Shawkat Mahmud from in front of Samarai Convention Centre in the capital’s Panthapath. The police said he was arrested in connection with three cases filed with Jatrabari and Ramna police stations on charges of arson attacks on vehicles, vandalising vehicles and crude bomb blasts.
